Well, I decided to start blogging again because after hearing Greg read some of the past posts recently, it made me realize how I need to capture our family time better. It is hard to go backwards, so I am just going to spring forward with what is going on now. Caden is eight years old and in second grade. He has the same teacher- Mrs. Mitchen- as Greg had many, many years ago when he was in first grade. This is a treasure to us and we looooove Mrs. Mitchen! Caden is so funny, but also a very good student. His report card reflects it in all high A's and 100 in spelling. The triplets just turned five years old and are excited about starting kindergarten in about 4 months! I am already teary-eyed because watching Caden, I know how things will change. Greg still owns his own company and loves making his own schedule and God has blessed his business with clients year-round.
Remembering Oakley- Oakland Princess Mathews
Our hearts are still sad that our sweet black lab Oakley died this past weekend. She was one week from her 13th birthday and the best family dog. I thought I heard her bark this morning and went to the back door to let her in and realized it was some other noise and she wasn't there. When she was a puppy, she was so small she could run under the coffee table. As she grew, she started hitting her head. She would jump on the sofa while we were at work so one day we put the coffee table in front of the sofa so she would get the clue not to get on the white cloth sofa with her black shedding hair. ugg. So we came home to find the corner of of table chewed because she was trying to chew her way to the sofa. She loved to swim and could fetch a tennis ball in the water for hours. She was such a "people dog" as we always called her that. She wanted to be wherever we were. She let the kids climb all over her and let them dress her up with blankets and hats and necklaces. She never bit anyone. She would understand they were toddlers and she knew to be extra understanding and sweet. She went with us many times up to Colorado and loved it there. She got too old to travel and we were sad when she could no longer go with us. She was never really interested in chasing squirrels or birds. She didn't know she was a dog and didn't even want to go outside unless we went too. She always wanted to lay under the table when we ate. I will miss sitting at the table without her being at my feet.
